Sin City

I didn't get a chance to see Sin City on the big screen, but DVDs can sure fill the gaps. Checked it out from the library and watched it on our television (so I didn't get the whole, cinematic effect).
I have to say that the photography is visually arresting. The monochromes, sepias, and special highlight colors scattered about really make for a stunning watching experience.
It's kind of too bad that the rest of the movie doesn't quite live up to its looks. I found the pacing of the movie to be a bit uneven. There were times I just wished they'd hurry things along a little more.
The stories and characters wouldn't fit in anywhere but a dark comic story, including the use of voice overs. But since this is a comic book movie, that's to be expected. There are several characters completely and utterly over the top, in both good and bad ways. Much of the nudity we see sprinkled throughout the movie is gratuitous.
As far as performances, Bruce Willis does well but the real standout performance is from Mickey Rourke. He's lamost unrecognizable in the character he plays. Hell, he is unrecognizable.
If I were grading this on just visuals, I'd give it an A. But I'm not, I'm covering the whole movie. So I'll have to settle for a solid B instead.
